Back Pain Treatment from Our Nurse Practitioner and Chiropractor

Back pain can catapult your life into serious disarray. Agonizing pain from a pinched nerve, degenerated disc, and strained muscles, or “all of the above” can make it impossible for you to live the life you want. The good news is that even serious back pain doesn't necessarily require surgery or pharmaceutical painkillers -- not with Southwest Physical Medicine on your side. Our nurse practitioner and chiropractor in Fort Worth can provide a wide range of non-surgical, drug free healing and rehabilitation methods to put your back in order.

Types of Back Pain Seen by Our Chiropractic Clinic

The column of articulated joints, bony vertebrae and cushioning discs that make up the spine encase the spinal cord, the hub of all sensory and motor signaling in the body, and supported by several large muscle groups. This complex structure can be vulnerable to many kinds of ailments and injuries our chiropractic clinic sees, including:
  • Traumatic injury - A violent, jarring sports injury or auto accident injury can force the vertebral joints out of alignment, tear muscles and herniate discs. This type of injury can cause both intense localized pain and referred pain to other parts of the body.
  • Degenerative disc disease - The natural aging process can contribute to back pain. When discs start to dry out, they also become flatter, which stresses the facet joints that articulate the spine. (The joints themselves may develop age-related discomforts such as arthritis.) Bulging discs can push up against nerve roots, producing pain; they can also herniate, with the nerves in torn outer casing sending out intense pain signals.
  • Musculoskeletal imbalances - When your body is off balance, your back may take the brunt of the punishment. Longstanding posture problems, an untreated subluxation (joint misalignment), pregnancy and other physical stresses can cause chronic muscle strain and other back problems.

Natural Back Pain Treatment

We don't just mask your back pain temporarily with drugs; we treat the underlying cause. The chiropractor can analyze your symptoms, the way you are standing, the way you are walking and spinal structure to pinpoint the source of your back pain. This enables us to prescribe natural back pain treatment, including:
  • Chiropractic care - Chiropractic care involves adjusting the spine to correct alignment problems, This enables Dr. Greg Carter, D.C. to relieve nerve pressure and relieve muscular strain.
  • Soft tissue therapies - Dr. Greg Carter, D.C. can also administer drug-free pain relief through techniques such as myofascial release massage and laser therapy.
  • Spinal decompression - This non-surgical technique relieves nerve impingement from herniated/bulging discs.
  • Physical therapy - Corrective exercises and other forms of rehabilitation can help you build a stronger, less pain-prone back.

We now offer STEM CELL INJECTIONS!

Healing your body naturally by repairing and regenerating damaged tissues, ligaments and cartilage is now possible using a powerful form of regenerative medicine called stem cell therapy. Southwest Physical Medicine now offers this safe and effective treatment that will not only restore your quality of life but your overall health and well-being.

Performed at our clinic, stem cell therapy involves using special cells found in your body called stem cells that have the amazing ability to eliminate inflammation and heal damaged tissues.  Since your bones, muscles, cartilage, joints and ligaments are continuously breaking down due to normal wear and tear, your body must constantly work at regenerating those parts using stem cells.  Providing potent analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, stem cells also have the remarkable ability to transform themselves into cells necessary for repairing damaged tissues and encouraging growth of new, healthy tissues.

Benefits of Stem Cell Therapy
In addition to providing long-term pain relief from neuropathy, arthritis and joint pain, stem cell treatment represents a drug-free, side-effect free, alternative treatment to managing a variety of chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, Parkinson's and diabetes.  During your consultation appointment, your Victoria Emanuele, ACNP will explain all aspects of the procedure and answer any questions you have about stem cell treatment.  You can expect each treatment to be completed in less than 30 minutes, with no recovery time needed.

Cortisone Injections v. Stem Cell Therapy
While cortisone injections do offer some pain relief for osteoarthritis, the effects are only temporary. Repeated injections of cortisone will cause unpleasant side effects, such as headache, dizziness and weight gain. People taking cortisone injections also tend to suffer recurring infections as a result of their immune system being suppressed by cortisone.  Research also shows that long-term use of cortisone may actually promote degeneration of joints, which could put you at risk for additional musculoskeletal injuries.

Joint Replacement Surgery v. Stem Cell Therapy
Stem cell treatment may also delay or possibly eliminate the need for joint replacement surgery by promoting regeneration of damaged tissues.  Although joint replacement surgery may be inevitable in some cases, it can cause scarring, development of blood clots and has a risk of implantation failure.  Extensive, post-operative rehabilitation therapy is also indicated for knee, hip and shoulder replacement patients.

Wellness Blood Panels with our Fort Worth Chiropractic Center

A blood panel will guide your treatment course to bring you the best overall wellness and healing. Victoria Emanuele, ACNP works with Dr. Greg Carter, D.C. to determine any causes of pain, reasons for health concerns. Or, genetic conditions that contribute to your well-being. Our holistic approach means that not only do you feel a reduction in discomfort but also that your healthy outlook dramatically improves.

A wellness blood panel at Southwest Physical Medicine provides our nurse practitioner and chiropractor with valuable insight into your health. Our wellness blood panel may include the following results:
  • Hormones -  we monitor hormone levels as an indicator of life's transitions so we can suggest natural ways to smooth the peaks and valleys.
  • Diabetes -your wellness panel includes glucose levels to track changes which may signal diabetes or other blood sugar conditions.
  • Allergy panel - an accurate list of your allergies helps you avoid potential triggers for allergy attacks, migraines, headaches, itchy eyes, runny nose and fatigue.
  • Cardiovascular - your blood panels gives us an idea of your cardiovascular health and risk factors for cardiovascular diseases.
  • Metabolic panel - these results show us if changes can be made in your diet and exercise program to improve your health.
  • Genetic testing - tests for a genetic predisposition for health conditions such as breast cancer.
  • Rare diseases - your blood panel may uncover a previously undiagnosed disease or the beginnings of health risks that may lead to disease.
  • Inflammation and pain - we monitor your inflammation levels as an indicator of your progress or to signal if your chiropractic care needs to be adjusted.

Hematology Results

When we receive the results of your wellness blood panel, we discuss them with you to determine the best ways to improve your health.  We may make nutritional and exercise recommendations to lessen your risks of heart disease and to reduce your inflammation and pain. We also show you how chiropractic care benefits your health by positioning your body in the best possible alignment. When your spine is aligned, your body functions at a higher level and is able to heal many risk factors and help you avoid illness and injury.

Other Services

Physical Therapy
After a car accident or sports injury has damaged your spine, physical therapy can help you heal faster. The goal is to improve flexibility and regain full, pain-free use of your back and neck.

Cold Laser Therapy
The low-level lasers we use for cold laser therapy are designed to penetrate the skin and repair injured soft tissues underneath. This improves blood flow and relieves pain.

Spinal Decompression
This safe, non-surgical therapy uses a mechanized table to gently stretch your spine. This process allows spinal decompression to gently draw herniated or bulging discs back into position, relieving pinched nerves and allowing healing to begin.

Weight Loss
Regular exercise and a healthy weight are both important for a pain-free spine. Benefit from either a medical or natural weight loss program.
